The Dutch football expert Pieter Zwart has investigated the dependency of the national team of Robben. His result: Since 2014, the team has scored one more goal per game when Robben was on the pitch.
It says all, that Robben was never a typical Dutch player. He grew up in Bedum, a remote village near the German border. There he was the only great talent, there were no professional trainers and so Robben was allowed to dribble as much as he wanted.
If he had grown up in the west of the country, one of the football academies would have caught him and forbidden him to dribble. He would have become just another Dutch striker who plays crossbars, instead of trying to goal himself. Robben could only become Robben, because he escaped from the Dutch system.
